Binance Charity announces that it is making a generous donation of 3,211 bitcoins (worth close to $60,000) to the Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris to help restore the Mays of Notre-Dame Cathedral that were damaged in the fire of April 2019. Donations in cryptocurrencies were collected from the Binance community in the days and months following the fire, in response to President Emmanuel Macron’s call for donations for the restoration of the cathedral. As a pioneer in the use of Blockchain technology for social benefit, Binance Charity launched a crypto fundraising channel that attracted donations from around the world.
The Mays of Notre-Dame de Paris are large paintings, accompanied by poems in honor of the Virgin Mary, which were commissioned almost annually between 1630 and 1707 from famous court artists by the Blacksmiths’ Guild of the City of Paris. They were originally hung in the arcades of the nave, the choir and the chapels. After their restoration, the Mays will be reinstalled in the arcades of the cathedral when it reopens.
“The fire that ravaged Notre Dame in 2019 was a tragedy, causing enormous damage to a world monument of great cultural significance. We are grateful to the community of Binance who generously contributed to the project and we are delighted to be able to use their donations for the restoration of the Mays. At Binance Charity, we strongly believe in transparency in philanthropy and it is significant to us that donors can see how their funds have been used to directly benefit the beneficiaries, working with the Friends of Notre Dame de Paris allows us to deliver on our promises”.
Michel Picaud, President of the Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris, commented:
“The Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris are very grateful to Binance Charity and its donors for joining the tens of thousands of donors from around the world who support the restoration of our iconic Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral. The restoration of Les Mays will help bring it back to its former glory”.
The Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris is still accepting donations of crypto (as well as fiat) to help finance the restoration of the cathedral at this address!
